 "Reasons for Quilting"
Let me be your guide on a walk through historical, political, and personal events that have inspired generations of quilters. In my presentation I reflect on quilters work and how they find inspiration to create, to express, and to mark milestones in their lives. The program is full of historical information as well as touching personal stories that many quilters can relate to. I bring along a large collection of quilts (over 50) that will entertain and inspire your members. I hope to inspire you with many reasons to continue to create and enjoy quilting even more than you do now.
 Workshop January 10"Winter Village"

In this Winter Village class, you will love creating these charming house blocks. This class will teach cutting, piecing, and finishing touches for our quilts. We will be making 3 houses in the class, and learn the techniques necessary to finish an entire village. This quilt is perfect in any color combination; the kits provided will feature Blue Sky fabrics as shown in the class images and we will discuss other color options in the class. Looking forward to seeing you there! There is a $40 kit fee, which includes the pattern, or you can buy just the pattern for $20 and use your own fabrics. "Collage Quilting without Falling to Pieces"
For those who have been wanting to play with collage quilting, we have a treat in store for February. Janis Rivera, a Laura Heine-certified teacher, will speak at our February 13 meeting on “Collage Quilting without Falling to Pieces”. Workshop February 14"Teeny Tiny Under the Sea"

“Teeny Tiny Under the Sea,” (sea turtle, mermaid and octopus all included in one pattern) from a new line of Laura Heine patterns scaled down to be more manageable in a day-long class. If you’ve tried collage quilting before you know how much fun it is. If you have never tried this before, now is a great time to learn! The required $25 pattern includes all three patterns. There are also optional kits for each pattern, priced at $35 for the mermaid and octopus; $30 for the sea turtle. These are fabric kits that match the sample I am sending you, not the photos on the pattern packets. Pattern Ease is included in the kit.  Supply List Copper & Chaos Design Company

Holiday fabrics work well for this project as well. You can make your wedges into a pillow, table runner or any size quilt.  Each Whimsical Dresden design is unique and individual.  A great way to get your creative juices flowing.   Supply List | Website   |

Susan Else"Off the Wall: Quilting in 3 Dimensions"

For the past 20 years, I have made sculpture with a collaged and quilted cloth surface. Figurative, with a surrealistic overlay, the work often has a humorous undertone. Each piece tells a story---though the narrative is often ambiguous. I like to make work that merges conflicted emotions and experiences in a single images. My aim is to keep the viewer a little off-balance, but engaged. I want the surface of the work to be beautiful in the way that only a textile can. Ten years ago, I began adding lighting, motors, and audio to my work---not because of an innate fondness for technology, but to help tell the stories. This talk will highlight various stages of my work, including my mechanized circus and the latest bone series. Some of Susan's work is pictured below and you can see more at http://www.susanelse.com   Look for an eBlast the Tuesday before our meeting with the Zoom link.

 | VIRTUAL GUILD MEETINGElizabeth Eastmond"Abecedary of Quilts"

Abecedary (A-B-C…) of Quilts—a series of stories about quilts, the people who quilt, and how quilting touches our lives.  More than just a “I-sewed-this-square-to-this-triangle,” I tell about how quilting reflects our lives, how quilts carry stories and memories and years of our lives.  At the end I also present Power of Quilting, nine impactful ways we are affected by, and affect others, with our creative work. This is my most popular lecture.

                                        | This is a wall hanging sized quilt (33x29”) designed by Elizabeth specifically for our Coastal Quilters Guild workshop. It’s a variation of her popular “Annularity” quilt, adapted so that it’s more accomplishable in a day - or week. She’s also designed it to include Kaffe fabrics and the Jennifer Sampou “Sky” ombrés, knowing that we were going to be using them in our September workshop. For this workshop, Elizabeth will teach via Zoom on the first Saturday, Oct. 10. Then, a week later, she’ll meet with workshop attendees again for an hour-long follow-up session to share what you’ve done and for questions about finishing, quilting, or any challenges you had along the way. | | Playing with color is one of the most rewarding aspects of quilt making. It can be fun, intuitive, challenging and at times frustrating.   In this class, we will explore how colors play off one another and delve into the importance of value.  Students will start with a variety of quick exercises, and move on to sewing small color studies that can be combined to make a larger quilt.   Level: confident beginner - sewing machine required.
